Verge Gallery

Edward Horne, Bureaucratic Tank,
From the 15 February to 12 March, the Verge Gallery will be holding an exhibition called Greatest Hits Volume 1.

The exhibition will showcase a selection of works from art students graduating in 2009, distilling the graduate exhibitions from the National Art School, Sydney College of the Arts, College of Fine Arts and EORA TAFE into one visual, artistic spectacular.

Undertaking the graduate show circuit can be overwhelming and exhausting; the Verge Gallery will bring you a stunning and concise taste of Sydney’s future artists. Greatest Hits Vol. 1 is not an exhibition strictly chosen from the high distinction students, but a collection of works that stick in the memory even after seeing hundreds of works in a single evening.

The Verge Gallery, despite By Nicole Patersonbeing a part of the University of Sydney Union, also aims to represent each of the art schools equally, challenging the rivalries of old. Edward Horne, Bureaucratic Tank, medium, year The exhibition will present a range of colourful, dynamic and engaging pieces, from ceramic organs on legs to a bureaucratic tank made entirely from filing cabinets.

Edward Horne’s 3 metre tank will be in the plaza right outside the gallery, lining up visitors and threatening the piles of paperwork building up on office desks everywhere Inside the gallery and hiding in a corner, Huw Lewis creates a dark and disturbing world made from papier-mache, cardboard, leather and fabric.

This abject peep-show nightmare will confront and fascinate. Huw’s dark creations are opposed in tone and thought by Nicole Paterson’s cheerful woolly mammoth, made from colourful strips of raggedy fabric. Nicole Paterson, Name, medium, year There are 16 artists in the show, taking on painting, drawing, ceramics, jewellery, sculpture, digital art By Huw Lewisand coca-cola paint vessels.
