
Women make up more than 50% of the student population.
It is only relatively recently (1972) that the Men’s Union and the Women’s Union amalgamated.
The Women’s Convenors positions evolved from previous women’s programs at the Union and has as its aim the promotion of the rights of women, women’s safety, the abolition of harassment and ensuring that this university continues as a safe place for women.

Anna Shelton-Agar
Anna is currently studying fourth-year Law having just completed a BA majoring in English Literature. Passionate about social justice and women's issues, Anna is Vice-President of the Sydney University Politics Society and recently contributed an article to the Sydney University Law Society's student journal, 'Dissent', on the topic of sanitation products in Zimbabwe. In November 2008, Anna co-organised 'Breaking Down Boundaries', a nation-wide student conference on social justice and the legal profession. In the future, Anna aspires to work in international human-rights law focusing on women's issues.
Alex Cordato
Alex is currently in her second year of the Arts (Advanced) (Honours) degree majoring in History. Within Sydney Uni Alex is involved with the USU Volunteers program and Debates. As a history student Alex is particularly interested in the history of women's issues and gender inequality.
